What do you “get” to do?

Picture this…

First thing in the morning, your alarm goes off and you jump out of bed eagerly and ease straight into your movement practice.

Is that your reality? Yes?

Or perhaps for you it’s bounding in from work at the end of the day full of beans and ready to pop on your leggings and move? Yes?

Or perhaps more likely not…?

Not for me either!

I have to put my alarm across the room to make sure I get right up and very often the last thing I want to do is my practice. In the short term it would be easier to have another half hour in bed or even head straight to the kitchen for coffee instead.

One of the many inspiring things Samantha Emanuel said during our conversation the other week was being sure to frame your practice as something you “get” to do.

It’s one of the tools I use regularly when I’m feeling the resistance of “I have to do this practice, which is hard work and I’ll get sweaty” and reframe it to the much more motivating “I get to give my body some movement nutrition and I’ll feel amazing afterwards.”

Your body needs to move - movement is nourishment for the body in the same way as eating a healthy, varied diet. No matter how much hard work it is to get going and keep going - if you have the right practice the endorphins are guaranteed to make you feel fantastic in the short term when you are finished and you also have the long term benefits of improved physical and mental health and longevity.

It is a privilege to have a body that moves and the more we move it the more capacity we will gain for movement!

Win - win!

Now…. You get to do your practice!! Go and do it right away and pop “done” in the comments when you have! (Or don’t - keep your computer/phone off and enjoy the rest of your day!)

If you don’t have a regular practice and you’re not sure what to do - get one for free here!
