Do you know your WHY?

Do you know what your WHY is?

WHY do you need to make the habit of regular movement a non-negotiable part of your life?

I know what mine is!

I asked this question last week in the 5 Minutes Is Better Than No Minutes Movement Challenge as I believe it is a key part of creating your lifelong movement habit and keeping it going, no matter what life throws at you.

When people register for the challenge, I ask “why do you need this challenge right now?”

The majority of people put things like “to move more,” “I need to get moving,” “I’m too sedentary,” “I sit too long at my desk.”

YES! All this may be true… And why?

If you are following me you know that I’m passionate about getting people moving. But I don’t want you to be doing it because I say so!!

What is so important for YOU to be able to push through those internal voices telling you to do it later or that you’re not the sort of person that does exercise or that you’ll make the aches and pains worse…?

I’ll tell you what motivates me…

When I first started getting more seriously into movement and fitness I was experimenting with all sorts of things. I remember going to a particular yoga class where there were a lot of people, I think in their 60’s and 70s all having a great time and moving beautifully. I’m not talking about “perfect” yoga poses but that they were enjoying moving their bodies and it looked effortless.

It’s always stuck with me and I aspire to have the same joy and freedom of movement when I’m that age.

I don’t want to be an old person who is scared to get up and down from the floor or who can barely turn their head (I see it a lot…)

And this is my WHY.

Along with many other things of course, and many of them might be whys for you…

*Keeping aches and pains at bay (I feel it in my knees and hips if I don’t keep them moving.)

*Managing your mental health

*Navigating perimenopause and menopause

*Reducing lethargy and energising yourself (no matter how tired I am on a Tuesday afternoon I’m always buzzing when I come home from teaching my dance and fitness classes)

*Reducing stress

*Putting yourself first so you are in top form to help others in your life

*Being able to fully enjoy time with your loved ones at every stage of life - play with your kids and roll around on the floor with your grandkids

*Feeling confident you are doing the most you can to take care of your beautiful, amazing body

Digging deep and understanding your WHY is an essential part of creating the habit of regular movement amongst all the other distractions in our lives.

Step one is knowing you need to move more

Step two is knowing why YOU personally need to move more

If you know your WHY - I would love you to share it in the comments - it’s always so inspiring to hear others’ stories.

If you are not sure about your WHY - this is something we are going to be digging into deeper in Springboard to Sizzle - my 4-week programme starting on 10th July.

In our weekly motivation calls there is the space for everyone to share the ups-and-downs of their movement journey, and we’re going to be making sure that everyone is crystal-clear on their why by the end of the month so that you have everything you need to keep it going.

Whether you are just starting out creating a regular practice, a regular mover who needs accountability to stay on track or someone who has started and stopped more times than you can count - Springboard to Sizzle is designed to give you the foundations for your regular exercise routine, starting a habit that you can continue to build for a lifetime!
